Give the birds a helping hand during the winter months by making them a bird feeder, rather than buying one and filling it with bird food. Get into the outdoors and take your ingredients with you: lard and bird food. Take along a gas stove and cook them up a tasty treat!

When you get into a wood or forest, go searching for pine cones. Warm the lard up in a pan and add the bird seed. When the lard begins to cool, smear it all over the pine cones. Finally tie some string onto the top of the pine cones and hang them from trees for the birds to find.
